Misha Vaughan

When it comes to user experience design, Misha W. Vaughan classifies herself as an “enthusiastic realist”─probably a direct result of being a mom with a two-year old, and one on the way. What matters most to Misha is:

1. Can real people use it?
2. Is it an elegant solution?
3. Can we build it?

Misha is currently an Architect in the Applications User Experience Group at Oracle USA focusing on next-generation user interface (UI) technologies for enterprise applications. While at Oracle, she led the cross-acquisition (PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Siebel, Oracle) user experience team and defined all of the user research methodologies for Fusion, including their suite of customer site visit tools. As a User Experience Manager, she drove the successful delivery of UI design and usability support for two major application divisions: Financials and Service Applications. Prior to Oracle, Misha managed a usability lab at Indiana University and conducted UI consulting for AT&T, Ameritech, and NCR. Her publications have included Best Practices and Future Visions for Search User Interfaces, The Role of Genre in UI Design, Best Practice UI Design for Enterprise Applications, and the first whitepaper written on Oracle’s UI Design Guidelines and Standards. Her background includes a Ph.D. in Information Science with a specialization in Human-Computer Interaction, and a Master’s degree in Telecommunications, both from Indiana University at Bloomington.

Misha is also the Editor-in-Chief for the usableapps blog and website.
