Customer Working Groups Organized for Usability
Author: Anna Wichansky, Ph.D CPE Senior Director and Chair, Oracle Usability Advisory Board
Based on the issues that founding members articulated in the board’s first meeting on March 28, 2008, the Oracle Usability Advisory Board currently supports three working groups. Board members organized themselves into the groups following presentation of the major enterprise usability issues in the morning session of the first meeting. The currently active working groups are: Consistency and Design Working Group Facilitator: George Hackman, Jr., Senior Director, Operations User Experience, and creator of the Design Patterns for Fusion Applications. Charter: The charter of this group is to identify and work toward resolution of difficult and unproductive user interface designs in existing enterprise software products. Members will contribute screen shots and describe examples of problems with visual designs, interaction designs, workflows, architectural features, messages, and user assistance in their current implementations. Members:
Integration and Performance Working Group Facilitator: Luke Kowalski, Corporate UI Architect, reporting directly to the Chief Corporate Architect of Oracle Corporation (currently conducted by Daniel Lord, Interoperability Evangelist).
Charter: The charter of this group is to identify and provide examples, both within and beyond Oracle products, of issues with enterprise software product integration and performance that impact the user experience. Members will contribute use cases and scenarios, as well as strategies for solutions. Significant issues that the group is currently addressing include federated search, document management, integration tools, prioritized performance, and performance benchmarks. Members:
Web 2.0 Working Group Facilitator: Jeremy Ashley, Vice President, Applications User Experience. The group will share case studies, best practices, and educational and research opportunities as these arise in their organizations, which can help the board better understand the usage and benefits of these technologies.
